1990 — Where It All Began
ELEY was founded in 1990 in small-town Nebraska with a simple but ambitious mission:
to build the most durable and reliable hose reels on the market.
From day one, we’ve been a family-owned company, grounded in Midwestern values—hard work, honesty, and doing things the right way.
1996 — Early Growth & Expansion
Within just a few years, our industrial pressure washer hose reels gained strong traction, delivering consistent double-digit growth.
To keep up with demand, we moved operations to a 50,000 sq. ft. facility in Lincoln, Nebraska, and expanded into air hose reels—quickly earning placement with major national retailers.
2001 — A Changing Manufacturing Landscape
When China joined the World Trade Organization in 2001, it triggered a major shift in global manufacturing.
Like many U.S. manufacturers, we faced increasing pressure from low-cost overseas alternatives. Despite our commitment to Made-in-America production, we watched our air hose reel business decline as competitors flooded the market with cheaper imports.
Ultimately, we made the difficult decision to discontinue that product line.
2006 — A Defining Decision
Around this time, we had launched our metal garden hose reels, which were gaining strong momentum.
But we faced a critical choice:
- Continue manufacturing entirely in Nebraska—and risk losing the category
- Or adapt to a changing global market to remain competitive
It wasn’t easy—but it was necessary.
We made the decision to move some fabrication overseas, allowing us to continue building the products our customers relied on.
2009 — Unlocking Better Design
This shift opened new doors.
With access to a broader range of manufacturing capabilities, our team was no longer limited by in-house equipment. Instead, we could focus on what matters most:
