150-ft Hose Capacity
Covering the same distance of half the length of a football field, our hose reels will hold up to 150 foot of 5/8" garden hose, which will be more than sufficient to reach the outer corners of most residential properties. For those that need more, an optional Extra-Capacity Kit will expand the reel’s capacity up to 225 feet of 5/8" hose. NOTE: All reels are produced for 5/8" flow, however can be converted for 3/4" flow by upgrading the reel with the purchase of a 3/4" inlet hose and a recommended 3/4" gooseneck adapter.
Optional Extra-Capacity Kit
By widening the center drum of the reel with an easy-to-install “spacer,” this kit conveniently increases reel capacity up to 225 feet (75 yards) of 5/8“ hose, or 170 feet (56 yards) of 3/4" hose. The kit includes a longer axle, drum spacer and all necessary hardware and tools. Adds $20
Left or Right-Hand Rewinding
Eley hose reels are the only garden hose reels on the market that are specifically designed to allow for either left or right-hand rewinding.

What's the difference between parallel and perpendicular?
The simple difference is in what direction the hose gets pulled away from the wall. The parallel configuration pulls the hose out alongside the wall, while the perpendicular configuration pulls the hose straight away from the wall. The arm of the reel can be attached to the wall plate in two different positions. You simply decide which configuration you want during the assembly process and attach the arm accordingly.
Are the reels available in different colors?
Eley garden hose reels are only available in our "Spartan bronze" color. This attractive, neutral bronze color was selected for its unique ability to blend in and look great with almost any color of siding, brick, stucco, wood and other surfaces.
Is this product rated for drinking water?
Products marketed as "Drinking Water Safe" must adhere to the NSF/ANSI Standard 61 for Drinking Water System Components as regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The certification process is extremely expensive and time-consuming and simply too cost-prohibitive for companies whose products don't specifically target the "Potable Water" market. Accordingly, Eley Corporation has not submitted this product for the certification process.
Are longer lengths of inlet hoses available?
Yes. All hose reels come standard with a 6-1/2 ft. x 5/8" polyurethane garden hose. If you need a longer length or size of hose, we do offer a 12 foot length available in both 5/8" and 3/4" sizes. These hoses can be purchased to add-on to, or replace the standard inlet hose. Our inlet hose selection can be viewed on our Inlet Hose page.
Do you make larger capacities reels?
The largest capacity hose reel available from Eley is any of our standard models modified with our Extra-Capacity Kit. Equipped with this optional kit, our reels can hold up to 225 feet of 5/8" hose or 170 feet of 3/4" hose.
When is the Extra-Capacity Kit necessary?
Although the standard capacity hose reel is capable of holding 150 feet of 5/8" ID poly hose, it must be reeled back in very carefully and neatly in order to get the entire 150 feet of length onto the reel. We consider the 100 foot length of 5/8" poly hose the best fit for the standard capacity hose reel, allowing for plenty of room for the hose even if not reeled in neatly. The 150 foot length is the best fit for reels equipped with the Extra-Capacity Kit. The photos below demonstrate the difference of the 150 ft. x 5/8" hose on a standard capacity reel and one with equipped with our Extra-Capacity Kit.
Can the reel be converted to 3/4 flow?
Yes. The entire internal plumbing of all Eley garden hose reels consists of two components, 1) the inlet hose and 2) the brass swivel. The standard inlet hose that is supplied with each reel is 5/8" ID. However, our patented brass swivel is a full-flow 3/4" swivel. So to convert the reel to 3/4" flow, simply replace the 5/8" inlet hose with a 3/4" inlet hose of your choosing, (sold separately). Eley offers two 3/4" inlet hoses in lengths of 6-1/2 and 12 ft. on our Inlet Hose page.
Is any assembly required?
Yes. However, the assembly process is not difficult. The assembly instruction manuals can be view on our Owner's Manual page.
Can I use thread locking compound on the stainless steel screws during assembly?
ELEY does not advise using a thread locking compound, whether it be low, medium or high strength. The reason is; if removal is required at a later time, there are a number of places where you are not able to access both the nut and the screw to hold them properly if a thread locker has been used.
Do the reels come with a level-wind option?
At this time, the Eley does not offer a level-wind feature on our garden hose reels. Also know as hose guides, a level-wind is designed to guide the hose back and forth onto the reel while rewinding.
What maintenance is required?
Eley garden hose reels are completely maintenance free. However, if you live in a winter climate, be sure to winterize the reel to protect it from freeze damage. View our winterizing Video.
Can the 1041 wall mount hose reel be mounted to stucco?
Yes, The Eley 1041 wall mount garden hose reel can be mounted to stucco. However, it is extremely important that the reel is anchored into a solid surface behind the stucco finish. The reel must be anchored into the wall studs and may require longer lag screws than provided. If there is masonry behind the stucco finish you will use the sleeve anchors or a masonry anchor. If you are not confident in your ability to locate the studs we recommend you consider the post mount, cart, or free standing hose reel. If you attempt to mount the hose reel to a stucco finish without locating the studs the reel will more than likely fall off causing damage to the reel and your stucco finish.
For brick, should I mount into the brick face or the mortar?
When mounting to brick it is acceptable to mount the reel into the mortar joints, or directly into the brick or block itself.
Can the wall plate on the 1041 hose reel be mounted vertically instead of horizontally?
Yes, The 1041 wall mount hose reel can be mounted with the wall plate vertically as long as the reel is set up in the parallel configuration only. The mounting holes will be 7-5/16” apart left-to-right, and 16” on center, top-to-bottom. The wall plate of a perpendicular configured reel must remain horizontal.
What is the best height to mount the reel to the wall?
Because we are only discussing one variable at this time (height), consider the following ergonomic principles: 1)all work activities should permit the worker to adopt several different, but equally healthy and safe postures 2) where muscular force has to be exerted it should be done by the largest appropriate muscle groups available. 3)work activities should be performed with the joints at about mid-point of their range of movement. This applies particularly to the head, trunk, and upper limbs. If possible, position the center of the reel six inches below your belt.
Is it okay to mount this aluminum-alloy reel to pressure treated lumber?
The pressure treatments ACQ – (Alkaline copper quaternary) and CA – (Copper azole) are very corrosive and contact with aluminum should always be avoided. We advise placing the included mounting hole standoffs between the reel and pressure treated lumber. If space does not allow the standoffs then stainless steel washers should be used.
What size are the enclosed anchor bolts and wood screws?
The mounting hardware supplied with the hose reel includes stainless steel lag bolts for stud wall mounting which are 1/4" x 2", and stainless steel sleeve anchors for masonry applications which are 5/16" x 1-3/4".
Can I mount it to a trailer?
No, the Eley 1041 garden hose reels are not intended for over-the-road applications. The warranty of the product does not apply when products are used in excess of their rated capacities and design functions or under abnormal conditions.
Can the 1041 wall mount reel be removed from the wall for the winter without removing the wall plate?
