Easy Installation, Rugged Construction

Four 90° brackets allow you to mount an ELEY model 1041 or 1041X wall-mount garden hose reel to any 4x4, 4x6, or 6x6 wood post. The brackets are made from a rugged, rust-proof aluminum alloy and are coated with the same durable Spartan bronze power-coat finish to match the ELEY reels. This kit comes with all the stainless-steel hardware needed for complete installation. The only tools required are a 7/16-inch socket wrench (for the wood lag screws) and the 5mm hex key wrench that is included with the hose reel. Wood post not included.

Mounts to Common Wood Post Sizes

The innovative mounting brackets are uniquely designed to work on both common wood post sizes. Simply flip the bracket over to change from a 4-inch post to a 6-inch post. Note that although they are referred to as 4-inch and 6-inch posts, the actual dimensions are 3-1/2 and 5-1/2 inches, respectively. The ELEY wall-mount hose reel will need to be assembled in the parallel configuration.

Wood Post Installation

If a wood post hose reel makes the most sense for your application, don't let the idea of digging a hole dissuade you. It's not as daunting as some might imagine. We have provided a helpful resource for you to consider with our How to Install a Wood Post article. There are also several good YouTube video tutorials on installing a wood post. Digging the hole can be done with posthole diggers (pictured) or a power auger. Afterward, you can secure the post with dirt removed from the hole or a concrete mix. Frequently Asked Questions - Wood Post Kit

What are the 'actual' wood post dimensions that this will mount to?

Lumber dimensions are a bit misleading. When the board is first rough cut from the log, it is to the true measurement, such as a 4" x 4", 4" x 6" or a 6" x 6" post. However, the drying process and planning of the board reduces it to its finished dimensions. For example, our reference to a 4"x 6" post, is actually a 3-1/2" x 5-1/2" post. This wood post kit is designed to mount our wall mount hose reel (Model 1041) to any post whose exact width is either 3-1/2" or 5-1/2".

Can I dig an 8-inch hole instead of a 12-inch one for the wood post?

We have taken the recommendations of the concrete manufacturers on the recommended hole size. There must be enough concrete from the corner of the post to the edge of the hole. A 4 x 4 post in an 8-inch hole would only give 1-1/2 inches of concrete.  Freeze-thaw cycles and loads on the post could easily crack that thin of material. Visit the QUICKRETE website for more details and an informative video on Setting Posts in Concrete.

What size is the mounting hardware that comes with this kit?

All hardware supplied with this kit is stainless steel. Each of the four (4) wood lag screws for attaching the brackets to the wood post include 1/4-inch x 2-inch hex head wood screws and a 1/4-inch flat washer.  Each of the four (4) screws used for attaching the reel's wall plate to the wood post brackets include an M6 x 25 hex socket head screw, a 1/4-inch flat washer, and an M6 serrated flange nut.

Will the post brackets work on a 4x4 post with a vinyl fencepost jacket or sleeve?

Yes, however, the 4x4 orientation of the bracket may be too narrow with the jacket. The reel might need to be mounted with the post brackets in the 6x6 orientation, with some type of shim to fill the gap between the bracket and the
vinyl sleeve.

Reviews

Good fit and finish

"I was able to rotate the mounts for a 6 x 6 and use some spacer adapters I had laying around to mount it to a 4 x 4 post that I had put a decorative vinyl sleeve over where the 4 x 4 mounting orientation would not have worked."

Derrick (5/5)

Eley hose reel post mounting bracket, good, but could be improved.

"The wood post mount that I used was sturdy, but it requires some finesse to install. Because the "ears" or mounting studs are loose to make the fit, marking the holes for drilling was difficult. If the ears could be designed to travel horizontally only to fit the post, that would simplify the process. A small track that restricts movement to a horizontal width for the post would be helpful. Then tightening the ears and marking the post would be much easier."

Robert S. (4/5)

I used the wood post

"I used the wood post mount kit on a 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 treated post. The fit was perfect. No missing hardware. Good instructions. I would also add that the reel itself is fantastic. Well worth the cost. I've been struggling with cheap plastic wall mounts for years. Never again."

Stephen P. (5/5)

Expensive, but well built.

"Kit works great for it's purpose although it is very pricey for what it is. I could have attached the reel to the post using another method but I wanted a clean factory look."
