How to Determine What Length of Hose You Need
FOR EXAMPLE, 38 paces x 2.5 feet = 95 feet. Therefore, a 100-foot hose would be an ideal fit for that particular location. Be sure to follow these guidelines:
1. Walk at a normal pace—no giant steps.
2. Walk the same path the hose will lay to reach the furthest point. No shortcuts.
Extreme-Duty Cover
An ultra-strong polyurethane cover (same material as inline roller skate wheels) delivers unmatched durability and resilience against abrasions, cuts, punctures, tears, and even dog bites.
Innovative Kink-Resistance
The revolutionary construction and characteristics of an ELEY polyurethane hose will typically cause it to flip out of a loop rather than collapse down into a kink.
Zero Kink Memory
Even if it is kinked, ELEY hose has "zero kink memory", which means it WILL NOT keep kinking in that same place over and over again.
Ultra-Lightweight
Amazingly lightweight, ELEY hose is up to 2 times lighter than rubber hose, and yet 3 times stronger than most leading brands. Individual weights linked above.
5/8-Inch Full-Flow
Just because a hose is 5/8-inch ID doesn't mean you're getting that much flow. Many externally crimped fittings can dramatically restrict flow. Our proprietary fittings deliver a full 5/8-inch flow of water.
Drinking Water Safe
Made with lead-free brass fittings and BPA-free materials that conform to FDA food contact and NSF/ANSI Standard 61 potable water contact, ELEY polyurethane hose is 100% drinking water safe.
Crush-Proof Fittings
Made from one solid, unitized piece of high-quality, forged brass, ELEY lead-free fittings are not only crush-proof, but also drinking water-safe. Durable machined threads help maintain a reliable water-tight seal.
Latex-Free & Non-Marking
Our ultra-strong polyurethane cover is latex-free and non-marking, making it is safe for not only sensitive skin, but also for finished surfaces, such as boat decking or hardwood floors.
Mold & Mildew Resistant
Polyurethane material is inherently resistant to mold and mildew growth, making it ideally suited for damp environments or conditions that typically foster fungi.
Made in USA
Made in our Nevada facility, ELEY incorporates the latest cutting-edge technology, processes and equipment to produce the highest quality and most durable garden hose on the planet.
Polyurethane Garden Hose Overview
In this short, 2-minute video, co-founder and VP of Design & Engineering, Craig Eley explains why we chose to make our hose from polyurethane material and how our unique processes makes it the most durable and reliable garden hose on the market.
Determining the Correct Length of Hose
Not sure how long of a hose you need? Avoid the hassle and expense of having to return a hose that is either too long or too short. Watch this short video to find out how to take just a couple of minutes to determine the correct length of hose needed for your particular application. The step distance of a person of average height is 2-1/2 feet.
- Step off exact path of hose from spigot to furthest point.
- Take normal steps. Not exaggerated steps. No shortcuts.
- Count the number of steps and multiply times 2-1/2 feet.
- Example: 32 steps x 2-1/2 feet = 80 feet. You would need to purchase 100-foot hose.
It is better and safer to be a little too long than too short.
Lead-Free Brass Fittings - No Stuck Threads
ELEY hoses are equipped with crush-proof, full-flow, lead-free brass fittings for long-term durability, better performance, drinking safety and a more dependable connection. Because most outdoor faucets and watering tools are also brass, it’s the ideal material match.
When a hose with aluminum fittings is connected to brass and gets wet, it can cause galvanic corrosion—a battery-like reaction that creates a white buildup that can seize the threads together. Brass-to-brass helps keep connections smooth and easy to remove.

Frequently Asked Questions - Polyurethane Garden Hose
Use the search field below to quickly narrow your search based on keywords in your query.
Most Frequently Asked Questions
Are ELEY hoses compatible with other brands of hose reels and watering tools?
Yes. All ELEY garden hoses use standard ¾-inch Garden Hose Thread (GHT), making them compatible with nearly all hose reels, sprinklers, nozzles, and watering tools sold in North America.
Tip: Avoid connecting brass fittings to aluminum fittings, as this can cause galvanic corrosion over time.
Is the ELEY garden hose kink-resistant?
Yes. ELEY garden hoses are designed to be highly kink-resistant during normal use, even when bent or looped.
This is achieved through a combination of advanced materials and construction, including polyurethane with low “kink memory” and reinforced, uniform wall thickness that helps prevent flattening and weak points.
For a deeper explanation, see: What Makes A Garden Hose Kink-Resistant?
How much pressure and flow does the garden hose deliver?
Water pressure (PSI) and flow rate (GPM) at the end of a garden hose depend on several factors, including hose length, your home’s water supply pressure, plumbing size, and the type of watering tools being used.
ELEY garden hoses have a 5/8-inch inside diameter, which provides strong, consistent water flow for most residential and professional watering applications. For most home and garden uses, this size delivers more than enough pressure and flow for effective watering, cleaning, and general outdoor use.
Are ELEY garden hoses drinking water safe?
Yes. ELEY garden hoses are made from materials that are certified safe for drinking water.
This is due to the materials used in their construction. The hose is made from UV-stabilized, FDA- and NSF-grade polyurethane, and all fittings are made from crush-proof, lead-free brass. Even the internal rubber gaskets are made from drinking-water-safe materials.
Together, these components ensure that water flowing through the hose remains safe to drink and does not leach harmful chemicals.
For more detailed information, see What You Need to Know About Drinking Water Safe Garden Hose.
What sizes (inside diameter) of ELEY garden hoses are available?
ELEY polyurethane garden hoses are available with a 5/8-inch inside diameter (ID).
This size provides an ideal balance of water flow, flexibility, weight, and durability, making it the most common and practical choice for residential and professional watering applications.
Compatibility & Connections
Are ELEY hoses compatible with other brands of hose reels and watering tools?
Yes. All ELEY garden hoses use standard ¾-inch Garden Hose Thread (GHT), making them compatible with nearly all hose reels, sprinklers, nozzles, and watering tools sold in North America.
Tip: Avoid connecting brass fittings to aluminum fittings, as this can cause galvanic corrosion over time.
Do I need a connector to join two ELEY hoses together?
No. You do not need a separate connector to join two ELEY garden hoses.
All ELEY hoses use standard ¾-inch Garden Hose Thread (GHT) fittings, allowing you to connect them directly—just like any standard garden hose. This also means ELEY hoses can be connected to most non-ELEY hoses, reels, and watering tools that use standard GHT fittings.
Simply screw the male end of one hose into the female end of the other to extend your total hose length.
Tip: Avoid connecting brass fittings to aluminum fittings, as this can cause galvanic corrosion over time.
What type of fittings can be used with the garden hose?
ELEY garden hoses use standard ¾-inch Garden Hose Thread (GHT) fittings, making them compatible with most hose reels, nozzles, sprinklers, and watering tools used throughout the USA and Canada.
For best results, we recommend using brass, stainless steel, or nickel-plated fittings.
Tip: Avoid connecting aluminum fittings to brass, as this can cause galvanic corrosion over time.
Can I change or replace the fittings on my ELEY garden hose?
Yes. ELEY garden hose fittings can be replaced or modified using an ELEY Hose Repair Kit.
This allows you to repair a damaged hose or configure custom connections, such as installing the same fitting type on both ends.
For step-by-step instructions and compatible components, see our Hose Repair Kit page.
What is the difference between GHT and NPT fittings?
Garden Hose Thread (GHT) is the standard connection used for outdoor watering products such as hoses, reels, sprinklers, and nozzles. National Pipe Thread (NPT) is used for plumbing and pipe fittings.
Although both may be labeled as ¾-inch, GHT and NPT use different thread designs and are not compatible with each other.
Will a hose washer from a local retail store work in the female fitting of an ELEY hose?
No. Standard hose washers from most hardware stores are not designed to fit ELEY hose fittings correctly.
Because the diameter is slightly different, a typical washer may not seat properly and can shift out of place, leading to leaks.
For a secure, long-lasting seal, we recommend using ELEY O-ring style washers (sold in a 12-pack), which are specifically designed to fit our hose fittings.
Performance & Specifications
How much pressure and flow does the garden hose deliver?
Water pressure (PSI) and flow rate (GPM) at the end of a garden hose depend on several factors, including hose length, your home’s water supply pressure, plumbing size, and the type of watering tools being used.
ELEY garden hoses have a 5/8-inch inside diameter, which provides strong, consistent water flow for most residential and professional watering applications. For most home and garden uses, this size delivers more than enough pressure and flow for effective watering, cleaning, and general outdoor use.

Hot-water use note:
At elevated temperatures, operate at reduced working pressure. Avoid kinking or crushing the hose, keep tools away from external dry-heat sources, and allow equipment to cool before tight coiling or storage.
Does the length of the hose reduce how much water I can get?
Yes. As hose length increases, both water flow (GPM) and pressure (PSI) will decrease—but in many cases, the difference is small and may not be noticeable.
For a 5/8-inch garden hose, water flow typically decreases by about 0.01 GPM per foot of hose:
- 50 ft: ~0.5 GPM reduction
- 100 ft: ~1.0 GPM reduction
- 200 ft: ~2.0 GPM reduction
Hose length also affects pressure. For every foot of hose, pressure decreases by approximately 0.1 PSI:
- 50 ft: ~5 PSI reduction
- 100 ft: ~10 PSI reduction
- 200 ft: ~20 PSI reduction
In most cases, the watering tool (such as a sprinkler or nozzle) has a greater impact on flow than hose length. Reduced pressure over longer distances may slightly decrease sprinkler range or spray distance, but for most home and garden use, even longer hose lengths still provide sufficient pressure and flow for effective watering.
*Based on a 5/8-inch hose laid straight on level ground with no attachment at the outlet.
How flexible is the ELEY garden hose, and what is its bend radius?
ELEY polyurethane garden hoses remain highly flexible, even in cold temperatures down to -40°F (-40°C). Unlike PVC or vinyl hoses, they do not stiffen or become difficult to handle in cold weather.
The bend radius of the 5/8-inch hose is approximately 3.5 inches, allowing for tight turns without kinking.
Despite this flexibility, ELEY hoses are also highly kink-resistant due to the properties of polyurethane and their reinforced construction.
For more details, see our article: What Makes a Garden Hose Kink-Resistant?
Does ELEY garden hose hold up in extreme heat, such as the desert Southwest?
Yes. ELEY garden hoses are designed to perform reliably in extreme heat, including hot, sunny climates like the desert Southwest.
The polyurethane material provides excellent resistance to heat and UV exposure, helping maintain flexibility and durability even with prolonged sun exposure. The hose is rated for temperatures up to 165°F and a maximum working pressure of 150 PSI.
While burst pressure decreases as temperatures rise, the hose is engineered with a significant safety margin. At 75°F, the minimum burst pressure is 450 PSI—three times the maximum working pressure.
Over time, extended sun exposure may cause some exterior discoloration, but this does not affect the hose’s performance, flexibility, or strength.
Is the ELEY garden hose UV-resistant?
Yes. ELEY garden hoses are UV-resistant and engineered for long-term outdoor use.
A UV stabilizer is added to the outer layer of the hose to help protect against sun exposure and slow UV-related wear. While extended exposure may cause some minor exterior color fading over time, it does not impact the hose’s durability or performance.
Usage & Applications
Can I use this hose with hot water?

As temperature increases, operate at reduced working pressure. Avoid kinking or crushing the hose, keep it away from external dry-heat sources, and allow it to cool before tightly coiling or storing.
Can ELEY garden hose be used to supply water to a pressure washer?
Yes. ELEY garden hoses can be used on the water supply (inlet) side of a pressure washer, as long as the inlet uses a standard 3/4-inch Garden Hose Thread (GHT) connection.
However, ELEY hoses should not be used on the high-pressure output side of a pressure washer.

Does ELEY garden hose work with walking/traveling tractor-type sprinklers?
Yes. ELEY garden hoses are compatible with walking and traveling tractor-type sprinklers.
With an outside diameter of 0.875 inches (22 mm), the hose works well with most major brands, including National Walking, Orbit, Nelson, Underhill, and Kees.
Additionally, tractor sprinklers with expandable front wheels can travel over hose connections, including those joined with ELEY quick connectors.
Can ELEY garden hoses be used for continuous pressure applications?
No. ELEY polyurethane garden hoses are not designed for applications where the hose remains under constant pressure.
ELEY hoses are intended for typical outdoor watering use, where pressure is turned on and off as needed.
For safety and long-term reliability, hoses used in continuous-pressure applications—such as washing machine supply lines—are specifically designed and tested for that purpose and should be used instead.
Can this hose be used for pump intake or suction applications?
No. ELEY garden hoses are not designed for suction or pump intake applications and may collapse under vacuum.
For these uses, a hose specifically rated for vacuum or suction should be used instead.
Is it safe to use heat tape on an ELEY garden hose?
Yes. Heat tape can be used as long as the temperature does not exceed 150°F (65°C).
Always follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for the heat tape and avoid exceeding this temperature to prevent damage.
