How Your Product Arrives
Your 4-wheel cart hose reel will arrive in at least two packages, by combining our 2-Wheel Cart Hose Reel (item #1043) with our Quad-Wheel Kit (item #1045). If you select the extra-capacity hose reel, then your order will also include our Extra-Capacity Kit (Item #1044). Don't purchase these kits separately, as they will be included as part of your 4-wheel cart hose reel order.
Frequently Asked Questions - 4 Wheel Cart Reel
These FAQs are specific to the four-wheel cart, model 1043Q. For general FAQs about all ELEY reels, visit our Garden Hose Reels FAQs.
2 Wheels vs. 4 Wheels? Which is right for me?
Without a doubt, this is the most asked question regarding this model. We recommend reading our quick comparison guide for answers from the experts: 2-Wheel vs. 4-Wheel Hose Reel Cart.
Is assembly required?
Yes, however, don't let that scare you away. Quick and easy assembly was one of our R&D team's primary objectives when designing the durable ELEY hose reels. We provide an excellent assembly manual with the hose reel as well as a full step-by-step video demonstration of the assembly on this website. Please visit our Assembly Instructions - Four-Wheel Wagon Hose Reel page if you'd like to preview the manual and video.
Will it easily tip over?
Our portable wheeled hose reels are not easily tipped over. While the addition of the optional Quad-Wheel Kit does add a bit more stability, the primary factor in the reel tipping over is how tight you set the adjustable cam-lever brake. Also, depending on which configuration you choose, these reels weigh 35 pounds or more and have a 2-foot wide by a 2-foot-deep base. The center of gravity of the unit is designed to keep the cart upright.
Is the 4-wheel hose reel cart made with drinking water safe materials?
Yes. ELEY hose reels are manufactured using high-quality materials commonly used in applications involving drinking water contact. Water-contact components include a durable polyurethane inlet hose, with hose fittings and swivel components made from lead-free brass that comply with federal lead-free standards.

Do the front tires turn, like on a grocery cart?
The front wheels don't turn, however, there are two methods to get the 4-wheel cart reel to turn to a different direction.
- The first is to push down on the handlebars in order to lift the front tires off the ground.
- The second is to lift up on the handlebars in order to lift the back tires off the ground.
Whichever you use, you can then simply spin the reel on the two tires remaining on the ground to change directions.
Is an optional tool basket available?
No. No tool basket option is available at this time. If one becomes available, it will be announced to our notification subscriber list. Notification sign-up is in the footer of this website.
If I buy a standard capacity reel, can it be modified into an extra-capacity reel later?
Yes. ELEY offers two kits that can modify this model. The first is the Quad-Wheel Kit. This kit converts our two-wheel cart reel into this four-wheel cart model. The second kit that can modify this model is the Extra-Capacity Kit. This kit increases the 125-foot capacity of a standard capacity reel up to 200-feet of capacity. Both of these kits can be added or removed from this model at any time.
I'm a tall person. Are there extensions available for the push-pull handles?
Sorry, at this time, we don't offer any extensions for the push-pull handles.
Does the sharp bend in the brass swivel restrict water flow?
The change in the shape of the garden hose swivel gooseneck does have a theoretical impact on water flow, but it is so minimal that our digital flow meter with a resolution of 0.01 gallons per minute (GPM) and our pressure drop gauges cannot detect it.
Do any of the wheels have a lock to prevent them from rolling?
No. So, make sure the wheels are not pointed downhill if you park the reel on a slope.
What are the dimensions of the flat-free tires?
The diameter of our foam-filled rubber turf tires is 10 inches and the width is 3-1/2 inches.
Can I connect a long hose to the faucet and use the included 6-foot inlet hose for watering with the 4-wheel cart?
No — the included 6.5-foot inlet hose is designed only to connect the hose reel cart directly to a nearby faucet. It is not intended to be used as the primary watering hose.
For best performance and maneuverability, connect your main garden hose to the reel drum and keep the cart relatively close to the water source.
Using a long hose between the faucet and the cart can make the cart harder to move and may place unnecessary strain on the axle and frame during use.
If you need greater reach from the faucet, we recommend repositioning the cart as needed rather than extending the inlet connection.
I don't see my question on this list.
